Once again, El Viejo Continente and Daniel Guerrero are present at the Intertabac show with their own booth, although the big news from them, apart from a very special new line of cigars is their new factory in Nicaragua. El Viejo Continente has already opened its own factory in the city of Condega, center of Nicaragua, for which the company has made a great invest effort, close to a million dollars. “It may not seem is too much,” says Daniel Guerrero, “but we are a very small company and for us It’s been a great investment.”
The new facilities of El Viejo Continente in Condega are already operating at full capacity, to soon exceed a production of more than one million cigars a year, with a staff of one hundred workers, forty rollers and a vision for the future, because they have opened a small school to train new cigar makers.
Don Juan
From this new factory, the first brand new line is El Viejo Continente Don Juan, which Daniel has dedicated to his father, Juan Guerrero. The cigar is a toro format (152 mm x 54), finished in pigtail, with am habano oscuro wrapper from Ecuador, binder and filler from Nicaragua, but “we have added a high percentage of tobacco from Ometepe island (Nicaragua) to the blend”, says Daniel Guerrero. “My father throw me the challenge that we had to create a cigar to his taste, something that is not easy, because I know that means it has to be full flavor, but I think he’s been reasonably satisfied with the result”.
El Viejo Continente Don Juan will be shipped to the markets after the show in the toro shape, but before the end of the year there will be a new size: diadema format, doble figurado, with a 58 ring gauge.
