Crowned Heads has announced its 2022 cigar for the Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA) Exclusive Series, the Lost Angel TAA Exclusive 2022. It’s the ninth time Crowned Heads has participated in the series, and the first time since 2019 that Tabacalera La Alianza has produced the release.
The Lost Angel is described as a prequel to the previous Crowned Heads TAA releases from 2014 to 2019 that were dubbed The Angel’s Anvil. Crowned Heads describes it as follows:
For the second year, The Lost Angel continues the prequel story of ‘The Angel’s Anvil” that ran from 2014 to 2019, and explores the darker side of the original story’s protagonist. The original story parallels Crowned Head’s co-founder Jon Huber’s career in the cigar industry. The underlying moral of the story is one of rising from the ashes, and is a reminder that the smallest of seeds needs to first be submerged in dirt, covered in darkness, and it is only then when the seed will struggle to reach the light.
Produced from Tabacalera La Alianza in the Dominican Republic, The Lost Angel 2023 features an Ecuadorian Sumatra Hybrid C9 wrapper over a Ecuadorian Sumatra binder, and fillers from Nicaragua, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. The cigar will be available in one size – a 6 x 54 Toro Extra. A total of 1,000 20-count boxes will be produced. Pricing is set at $13.50 per cigar.
In 2021 and 2022, Crowned Heads TAA releases were produced at Tabacalera Pichardo.
“Our first TAA Exclusive was released in 2014, working with Ernesto (Perez-Carrillo), and we felt it was time to take it back to where it all began for us,” commented Crowned Heads co-founder, Jon Huber in a press release. “I think we spent more time in development of this blend than on any previous TAA release to-date. It really began in early 2022 when Ernestopresented this amazingly unique Ecuadorian(Sumatra) hybrid wrapper to us. It was dark and oily, but surprisingly sweet and rich. That was the jumping off point, and from there the blend was in development for the better part of a year.”
