DBL Cigars has opened up a new cigar factory and a new box factory located in Tamboril, Dominican Republic. A grand opening was held for both facilities on March 4, 2023, which also coincided with celebrating the 10th anniversary of DBL Cigars.
DBL Cigars owner Francisco Almonte purchased the land in 2018, but construction did not start until 2020. The builder was Oscar Jimenez, who is known in the Dominican Republic for building large structures like hospitals and apartment complexes.
“You don’t feel like you are in a cigar factory when you walk into ours. The view when you walk in is gorgeous, absolutely amazing. I am very happy with the work of the architect and construction team,” commented Almonte.
The two new facilities sit on just over one acre of land in Tamboril, Santiago, Dominican Republic. The two buildings are 16,000 sq. ft. each, totaling 32,000 sq. ft. of total factory space. There are a total of 82 employees in the cigar factory. The new factory is more than ten times larger than the original factory and features:
Reception area and front offices
Two state-of-the-art aging rooms furnished with wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling cabinets made of Spanish cedar wood where cigars rest for up to six months in controlled temperature and humidity levels (equivalent to resting cigars in a humidor) before packaging. The rooms can hold 300,000 cigars
Private cigar lounge for visiting retail partners, friends, and family of DBL Cigars.
two floors of workspace
the first floor includes offices, an aging room, la Galera (more than 200,000lbs of tobacco are in fermentation), and the packaging dept.
the second floor includes a drying room, sorting department, cigar rolling area, and a cigar lounge with a private outside entrance.
The cigar box factory is located in an adjoining building on the same property with 80 employees. This one-floor facility includes 90 modern woodworking machines and apparatuses and will produce more than 200,00 cigar boxes a year for DBL and other Dominican cigar companies.
DBL Cigars says future plans for the property include building a warehouse, a daycare center for employees’ children, a cigar rolling school, and a “clubhouse” for entertainment.
In addition, DBL Cigars has said it also acquired a third tobacco farm in the Cibao region.
“People are immediately impressed when they visit our new factory. I wanted to come up with something different. I included a lot of high-end finishes,” added Almonte.
