Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG) has announced the Buffalo Trace Special F. This is a limited edition project that has been done in conjunction with famed whiskey maker Buffalo Trace. Last year, STG and Buffalo Trace teamed up to release the Buffalo Trace Cigar line. While last year’s collaboration was designed to create a cigar that could be paired with Buffalo Trace whiskey, this year the Buffalo Trace Special F goes a step further by using a binder leaf that has been aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels. The Buffalo Trace Special F is distributed by Meier & Dutch, the distribution arm of Cigars International. It is also available for sale at Cigars International retail stores and its online store.
Last week, STG announced the 2022 edition of Weller by Cohiba for General Cigar. Similar to Buffalo Trace Special F, the 2022 Weller project used a similar process where it aged the binder leaf in a Weller bourbon barrel. The previous 2021 Weller by Cohiba did not do that.
The Buffalo Trace Special F is made in the Dominican Republic. The binder aged in the Buffalo Trace barrels is a Brazilian Arapirca leaf. This leaf has undergone six months of aging in Buffalo Trace barrels. The remainder of the blend features fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The cigar is finished with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The cigar comes in one size – a 6 x 60 figurado. Pricing is set at $11.00 per cigar. The cigars are presented in ten-count boxes.
In a press release, Kevin Irvine, product coordinator of STG’s Online and Retail division said, “With Buffalo Trace Special F, we set out to explore the effect that extended barrel aging would have on the binder leaf and are extremely pleased with the results. The brown sugar and toffee nuances that have won Buffalo Trace Bourbon critical acclaim are present in the cigar, in the most subtle and intriguing of ways. This is an amazing cigar and we believe it will sell out quickly.”
