Cigar News: Southern Draw Adds Morning Glory to Lineup

September 30, 2023 By

Southern Draw Cigars has announced a new regular production offering to its lineup known as Morning Glory. The project is dedicated to members of the Southern Draw team. It’s a release that Southern Draw had to postpone until now due to COVID-19 restrictions and supply chain issues.

Like many of Southern Draw’s core offerings, the name is inspired by a flower. Morning Glory is a species of flower. In this case, it’s specifically the Ipomoea Tricolor (Heavenly Blue). The morning glory is known for its blue florets with a white to yellow center. This color scheme has been incorporated into the banding and the packaging of this cigar which Southern Draw co-owner Sharon Holt designed.

“The MORNING GLORY has been produced in over 20 sizes or formats, enjoyed by the SDC family for many years, and in an age of instant gratification, it has taken incredible perseverance to achieve our desired result. As the pursuit of our own defined excellence came to an end, we consulted some of the most respected masters of this handmade art, and each had no further suggestions to make the Morning Glory better. The blend is a beautiful token of our daily appreciation to our SDC family that have not previously been honored. Despite their financial investments and collective patient dedication of our continued growth, all have remained quietly offstage but just behind the drawn curtain,” commented Robert, Sharon, and Ethan Jacob Holt in a statement in the Southern Draw Morning Glory press release.

As for the blend, it features a USA Connecticut Shade Claro wrapper over a Nicaraguan Hybrid Criollo binder, and fillers that include Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 and Criollo ’98 wrappers. The line is being released in three sizes: Rothschild (4 3/4 x 50), Short Churchill (6 1/2 x 48), Diadema (6 3/4 x 52). Each is packaged in ten-count boxes similar to what was released for Manzanita. What is different is these are not sizes typically seen in Southern Draw’s core portfolio. The company says pricing will range from $12.49 to $13.99 per cigar. While it’s a regular production cigar, Southern Draw expects the production number to be 180,000 cigars per year.

Southern Draw has also done a soft launch of this cigar for Cigars International featuring what the company says is two one-time-only sizes: Lonsdale (6 1/2 x 46) and Box Pressed Perfecto (6 3/4 x 52). These have been included in Cigars International’s Create-Your-Own CIGARfest – 64 Cigar – Deluxe Cigar Package, being sold at each of their retail stores between September 24th and October 29th, 2022.
