At the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, Altadis U.S.A. will introduce the H. Upmann 180th Anniversary, which commemorates the brand’s 180th anniversary.
The brand traces its origins to 1844, when Hermann Upmann, a German banker, went to Cuba to open a bank. He ended up creating a small batch of cigars for his client, which led to Hermann and his younger brother August creating their own cigar brand.
The H. Upmann 180th Anniversary is a Nicaraguan puro made with a Medio Tiempo wrapper from a hybrid seed and an enhanced fermentation process. Altadis is showcasing two sizes: Churchill and Toro. A total of 5,000 ten-count boxes of the Churchill are being released. The Toro will be made available in a special edition numbered humidor, and 180 50-count humidors are being released.
If this sounds familiar, the process used for the 180th Anniversary release is similar to the H. Upmann 175th Anniversary release (which was also a Churchill). The difference is that the blend for the 180th is different from the 175th. In addition, the Toro and Humidor are unique offerings for the 180th anniversary.
In a press release, Rafael Nodal, Head of Product Capability for Tabacalera USA, states: “We are proud to pay tribute to the 180th Anniversary of the H. Upmann brand with this exceptional cigar. The blend features a complex variety of Nicaraguan tobaccos from different regions, providing an array of flavor nuances and aromas.”
As part of the H. Upmann 180th Anniversary celebration, Altadis U.S.A. partnered with luxury bespoke hat maker Wild Hats to create a commemorative H. Upmann 180th Anniversary fedora-style hat. The Wild Hats team will craft hats at the 2024 PCA Trade Show, and a limited number will be available to retailers.
The 2024 PCA Trade Show opens on March 23 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
