First announced last August, Tatuaje has now revealed release information on the company’s first NFT cigar launch: Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition.
The project has roots to the original MicroBlend cigar from Tatuaje and Smoke Inn Cigars in 2010, a series that continues to this day (now on its 19th official release). With the NFT release, the cigar will now have the potential to reach larger audiences, remaining quite limited yet being released on a quarterly basis.
Pete Johnson expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating “The original Tatuaje Anarchy cigar remains to be one of the largest single store releases in our industry and is still being sought after by consumers worldwide. I felt this cigar specifically was worthy of a special NFT offering that would allow the cigar to exist, while in very limited quantities, on a regular basis. Collaborating with S.T. Dupont and Quality Importers was the perfect way to create a very special and unique collection to complete the offering.”
The project consists of seven unique NFTs, which are non-fungible tokens secured by blockchain technology, and can be thought of as a digital certificate of ownership and authenticity for a given asset. The NFTs will be auctioned off in late August of this year, where six separate sales will take place in the span of 48-hour segments. The seventh NFT will be issued to Smoke Inn owner (and Anarchy brand creator), Abe Dababneh. Essentially, these NFTs are verifiable tickets (that can theoretically be re-sold on NFT marketplaces), granting the owner access to the following:
Specially crafted handmade 75-count Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition humidor (1x)
Includes 60 original Tatuaje Anarchy cigars and 15 ultra-rare Anarchy Pale Horse Editions
24×36 framed print version of the NFT (1x)
01/01 Ligne 2 Lighter by S.T. Dupont (1x)
Perfect Xi1 Cutter by Xikar (1x)
Crystal ashtray by Quality Importers (1x)
Ongoing opportunity to purchase quarterly allotment of 15 boxes of 15 Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition cigars at $14/cigar
NFT holders will receive unique pyramid-shaped humidor containing original Anarchy cigars and 15 ultra-rare Anarchy Pale Horse cigars. The latter is a concept first seen on the Anarchy KAOS Pale Horse event exclusive from the 2020 The Great Smoke dinner, where the blend’s Habano maduro wrapper is replaced with a claro variant; these are limited to 105 cigars ever produced in this vitola. All other accessories/collectables included are one-of-one, with artwork matching the seven NFTs.
NFTs are relatively new technology, and have taken somewhat of a similar trajectory in the cigar world as compared to other such communities. The first cigar-themed NFT to gain attention was by United Cigars in the spring of 2021 (as NFTs first caught attention by mainstream audiences). While this release was limited to the more rudimentary launch style of digital artwork, the recent attempts by LFD and Tatuaje/Smoke Inn have advanced the concept with added utility. This removes much of the speculation associated with NFTs as they were initially envisioned, instead acting more along the lines of a ticket that grants access to real-world benefits.
The Tatuaje Anarchy NFT Edition is being handled by UREEQA, which is the same company that helped LFD will their wildly popular NFT launch last year. While the specific blockchain wan’t mentioned in a press release, it will likely be hosted on the Ethereum blockchain, as with the LFD’s Andalusian Bull — The Golden.
The project will be on display at Tatuaje’s booth next week during the PCA trade show in Las Vegas.
