Joya de Nicaragua has announced a limited spinoff of their Rosalones brand, which is made to pair with Spanish wine and offered exclusively to the Spanish market.
The cigars are dubbed Rosalones Selección Bodegas Edición 2022, marking the first release in a new annual series that will showcase a new blend each year to pair with wines from the Iberian region. The project is made in collaboration with wine and cigar sommelier Agustín López, who has been placed in charge of finding the best wine/cigar pairings for the project.
Every year ROSALONES SELECCIÓN BODEGAS will present to the market a blend that makes a perfect pairing with one of the many denominations of origin of the peninsula, in collaboration with the Wine and Cigar Sommelier, Agustín López, who has been in charge of identifying these harmonious unions. This “2022 EDITION” is ideal to be smoked accompanied by red wines with Qualified Denomination of Origin Rioja.
Rosalones was among the first cigars produced by company founders Juan Francisco Bermejo and Simón Camacho after founding the Nicaraguan Cigar Company (now known as Joya de Nicaragua) in 1968. The line was later discontinued in 1990, though it was brought back in 2011 at the “request of the team that represents Joya de Nicaragua in Spain and became one of the smokers’ favorites.”
The Rosalones Selección Bodegas Edición 2022 has been made to preserve the character of the original Rosalones cigar from the ’60s. This includes an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and all-Nicaraguan binder/fillers, using “aged tobacco leaves of the highest quality.” The cigars have been rolled in a singular 6? x 50 toro format, with 250 boxes of 20 cigars (5,000 cigars) shipping to the Spanish market in the middle of Dec. 2022.
