News: Third Edition of Weller by Cohiba Now Shipping

For the third consecutive year, the non-Cuban Cohiba brand is partnering with the Sazerac Company and their Weller bourbon brand, with the Weller by Cohiba (2023) cigars now shipping to retailers throughout the US.

This collaboration first debuted in 2021, and has seen slight changes with each new release. In 2022, this included the addition of barrel-aged tobaccos, where the Broadleaf binder was aged in spent Weller barrels. This ingredient carries over to the 2023 release, where the Weller barrels were transported from the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky to the General Cigar factory in Santiago, DR. However, this is essentially the only similarity between releases, as the Sumatra wrapper has been replaced with a leaf from Nicaragua’s Jalapa growing region; the fillers have been changed as well, now featuring leaves from Nicaragua (Jalapa and Estelí) and Brazilian Mata Fina.

Cohiba Brand Ambassador Sean Williams said, “For our third blend of Weller by Cohiba, we deepened the exploration of barrel aging on tobacco. In calling upon Weller bourbon barrels to deepen the complexity of the binder leaf, we have added a layer of dimension that makes itself known not only on the palate but also through the aroma. This is a sophisticated cigar that pairs beautifully with bourbon or aged brown spirits and delivers a decadent smoking experience on its own.”

The cigars are presented in new boxes this year, featuring 10 black aluminum tubos, each concealing a 6? x 50 toro. The cigars are now more prominently displayed within the box, and the blend details are clearly featured at the foot of the box interior (as well as a new QR code with added details). The cigars are priced the same as last year’s release—$25 per cigar—and are limited (without specific numbers provided) to a 2023 release.
