While Davidoff hasn’t been a quiet brand for 2022 as a whole, when it came to the Summer of ’22 reporting period (Memorial Day to Labor Day), the big three brands of Davidoff (Davidoff, Camacho, and Nicaragua) were all quiet. Instead, the new products for the Summer of ’22 were in two areas: Zino and Ferio Tego. Ferio Tego is distributed by Davidoff of Geneva in the U.S. While Davidoff is one of the “Big Four” that decided to withdraw from the 2022 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, Ferio Tego as a company still has chosen to exhibit there. Today, we turn our attention to the happenings of Zino and Ferio Tego.
There was a line extension to the Zino Nicaragua line in the form of a 6 x 60 Gordo. Zino Nicaragua made its debut in 2021. While Zino has been recognized for many years as an ultra-premium brand known for its limited editions, Zino Nicaragua would be positioned as a value-priced regular production cigar. It also would not be targeted to just premium tobacconists, but also to convenience stores. The Zino Nicaragua features an Ecuadorian wrapper and Nicaraguan tobaccos for the binder and filler. There are also Honduran and Dominican tobaccos in the filler. The 6 x 60 is the fourth vitola in the line.
Outside the U.S., Davidoff’s Zino Mini Cigarillos Nicaragua is getting what is termed a relaunch. There are two updated blends with new packaging that will now be produced in-house at Davidoff’s factory in the Dominican Republic. First up, the Zino Mini Cigarillos Nicaragua gets a blend consisting of a Mexican wrapper and binder over a filler of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos. This is a different blend that the premium, large format Zino Nicaragua line. The cigarillo is a small thin 3 1/8 x 19 vitola.
We covered Ferio Tego in the PCA Report below. Ferio Tego introduced the Timeless Ten Years and 2022 editions of Ferio Tego Elegancia and Ferio Tego Generoso.
