The Atabey Black Ritos, the world’s first cigar NFT, is now shipping. This is a culmination of a five-year project. This limited-production cigar will go to ten U.S.-based retailers who purchased an NFT box or are a United Cigars lounge.
The first Atabey Black Ritos boxes were sold as an NFT in 2021. At the time, the cigar debuted in a conceptual form where digital art was offered. In this way, cigar enthusiasts could purchase the NFT boxes at a set price of $1,200 as Atabey Black Ritos NFTs were released with a charitable intent and not as an auction item. U.S.-based retailers purchased five NFT boxes, allowing them to buy an allotted portion of this limited production once the cigar had come out. Five additional retailers designated as United Cigar lounges will also carry the NFT.
A total of 5,000 cigars were rolled in 2018 for this 2023 release and aged in rooms lined with five different cedars and French Oak for the aging process. When the NFTs were sold, Selected Tobacco donated proceeds to Cigar Rights of the World.
The Atabey Black Ritos was showcased at the 2023 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show. Selected Tobacco is pricing each Atabey Black Ritos Cigar at $50.00.
“Atabey Black Ritos captures the essence of Atabey with an exotic twist,” says Nelson Alfonso, owner of Selected Tobacco, in a press release. “We have spared no effort in creating a cigar that embodies the essence of luxury and exclusivity. It is my honor to offer this to those who understand and appreciate what we try to do.”
