The RoMa Craft Tobac Quinquagenario, a long-awaited limited edition cigar produced between RoMa Craft Tobac’s Skip Martin and E.P. Carrillo’s Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, is getting ready to hit the stores. The cigar was also showcased at the 2023 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show.
A Quinquagenarian refers to someone who is between the age of 50 and 59. In this case, the project was created to commemorate the 50th birthdays of the principals involved at RoMa Craft Tobac. Skip Martin turned 50 in 2022, Michael Rosales turns 50 in 2026, and former Nica Sueño factory partner Esteban Disla will turn 50 in 2024. The initial Quinquagenario release focused on Martin’s birthday.
Martin used this milestone to take on a learning challenge – namely, to work with Dominican tobaccos. Teaming up with Perez-Carrillo, he not only used Dominican tobaccos, but also would produce the first RoMa Craft cigar outside of Nica Sueño as Quinquagenerio was made at Tabacalera La Alianza. Martin has said this is a true collaboration in the sense that he spent many hours in the Dominican Republic working hands-on with Perez-Carrillo on the project.
The blend features a dark Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over Dominican binder and filler. It includes a binder and two filler tobaccos from Leo Reyes as well as two tobaccos from Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. The cigar comes in one size -a 5 x 50 Robusto. Martin says the cigars have been aging for over a year. There were 50,000 cigars produced. They are available in 24-count boxes, but there will also be some bundles available.
Pricing is set at $15.00 per cigar.
