Long a proponent of tobaccos from the Connecticut River Valley, Foundation Cigar Co. has now opened a new office on the grounds of a 300-acre farm in the famed growing region, which is owned by Dunn & Foster in Ellington, Connecticut.
This was accomplished through a long-fostered friendship between Foundation owner, Nicholas Melillo, and Jon Foster of Dunn & Foster Tobacco.
“Nick and I have been friends for 20 years. We have a shared love and passion for CT River Valley Tobacco and the same interest in preserving and promoting this unique, growing region.” says Jon Foster.
Incorporating Broadleaf and other prized tobaccos from the region into many of the most acclaimed Foundation cigars, the company says it will now have the unique opportunity to “be a part of the growing process.”
“This is the Napa Valley of cigar tobacco.” Says Nicholas Melillo. “And most people outside the cigar world don’t realize its importance. I hope to help change this. The connection between Nicaragua and Connecticut has profoundly impacted my career and represents the heart and soul of Foundation Cigars. Jon and I have the same vision for the CT River Valley, so it made sense to collaborate and put Foundation’s home offices on his historic farm.”
Dunn & Foster is the continuation of two agricultural families in the Connecticut River Valley. The Dunn family has four generations of producing high quality Connecticut Broadleaf and the Foster family has 300+ years of experience in agricultural production. Jon Foster has taken up the tradition of growing and sourcing high quality tobacco for use in premium, hand rolled cigars.
