One week after Foundation Cigar Co. began shipping their Metapa line, the upgraded variations of the company’s Charter Oak line now follow, officially shipping to retailers this Monday.
There are two unique cigars in the launch—Charter Oak Pegnataro and Charter Oak Pasquale—each being made to commemorate the smoking preferences of Nick Melillo’s (Foundation owner/founder) grandfathers.
“My love for handmade cigars exists only because of my grandfather’s. One was an avid CT Broadleaf smoker and the other loved CT shade. These blends are completely different than the core line of Charter Oak. They are richer and more complex.”
The Charter Oak Pegnataro and Pasquale cigars were first announced this June, later making their first appearance in July at this year’s PCA trade show in Las Vegas. The cigars mark the fourth and fifth blends in the Charter Oak collection (joined by the CT Broadleaf, CT Connecticut, and CT Habano), with the line as a whole celebrating the Connecticut growing region and Nick Melillo’s beginnings in the cigar industry. News of the cigar also coincided with Foundation’s announcement that the company would be moving their headquarters to an actual tobacco farm within the Connecticut River Valley, pioneering a return to the region’s dominance in tobacco production.
“The Charter Oak core line would have been their everyday cigar and these new blends would be for the weekend or a special occasion.” shared Nicholas Melillo. “These blends are deeply personal to me, as they honor the legacies of my grandfathers. The CT Broadleaf and CT Shade wrappers represent their distinct personalities, allowing me to celebrate their individuality through exceptional cigars that bear their names.”
Each cigar is rolled in a 5½” x 48 soft box-press format, being limited to 500 boxes of 12 cigars (per blend) each quarter. Rolled out of A.J. Fernández’s primary facility in Estelí, both cigars use similar core recipes, including all-Nicaraguan fillers from Estelí and Jalapa, being bound in a Nicaraguan leaf from Jalapa. Finally, the Pegnataro is wrapped in a Connecticut Shade leaf, while Pasquale is finished with a dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The cigars are priced at $13 MSRP apiece, and should begin appearing on retail shelves this week.
